Sweet Italian Sausage

After publishing our Ziti and Lasagna recipes recently a few questions came in related to the Sweet Italian Sausage the recipes call for. Though you can often simply purchase good sweet italian sausage, some markets simply do not have a great blend. As a result, we developed our own blend which we love.

I suggest you try the local market blends. If they can stand on their own and you like them, use them and save yourself some time. If not, here is our recipe which we know can stand on its own and add a great flavor to italian dishes calling for a sweet italian sausage element.

1 Pound Ground Pork

1 Teaspoon Dried Basil

1 Tablespoon Red Wine Vinegar

1 Teaspoon Dried Oregano

2 Teaspoons Dried Parsley

½ Teaspoon Fennel Seed

½ Teaspoon Paprika

½ Teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes

2 Teaspoons Salt

1 Teaspoon Dried Garlic

½ Teaspoon Onion Powder

2 Tablespoons Brown Sugar

Directions

  1. In a large bowl mix all ingredients well.
  2. Though this sausage can be used immediately, we suggest covering it and placing it in the refrigerator 1 day before use. This allows the ingredients to blend well together.
