A hidden treasure lies in the small river town of Westport, Kentucky. Take Highway 42 about 12 miles north of Louisville and turn left toward the river. After a winding three-mile drive through dense woods, the town appears without warning—a cluster of old buildings that feels less discovered than stumbled upon. On your left is what looks like a general store pulled straight from 1940, with hand-lettered signs.
Inside, the menu changes but reliably turns out sandwiches, quiches, soups, and salads made from scratch that morning, alongside desserts worth making the drive for on their own. The attached shop is stocked with the kind of oddments and local goods you didn’t know you needed. The whole place smells like bread and coffee and somewhere you’ve been before.
Small town America at its best.
