Maker’s Mark Distillery

People often ask where to visit while in Kentucky. They also mention the plethora of distillery tours available. Well, one of our favorites is The Maker’s Mark tour, South of Louisville in Loretto Kentucky.

Not only is Maker’s Mark one of the oldest and well known distilleries in the world, but it sits in beautiful country with rolling hills and greenery all around. The drive is fantastic, and they also have updated many of their tour buildings to allow for a pleasant greeting area, restaurant and tasting room. Of course, they have kept all the historic charm of wood vats and bourbon barrel areas in their original state.

While all the Kentucky tours are fun, at Maker’s Mark you can have one unique experience if desired. Yep, you can purchase a bottle of Maker’s Mark and dip it yourself in their red wax dipping vats. It’s not only fun but allows you to take home a personally made, absolutely unique bottle of bourbon to forever remember your Kentucky visit. Recently, nephew Mateaus and his girlfriend Destinee had their first Maker’s experience. (Sure as the picture indicates, Mateaus was scared but Destinee had no fear.)

There are many other fine distilleries to visit in Kentucky, Buffalo Trace comes to mind as another favorite, but the Maker’s Mark visit is definitely unique, and it is also very close to historic Bardstown if you want to make a day of a visit down South of Louisville.
